CONNECT WITH USEARLY ROOTS: OVER A CENTURY IN HORTICULTURE
The Heroman family has been a staple of the horticulture industry in Baton Rouge dating back to the late 1800s. The original business was located downtown, right across from St. Joseph’s Cathedral, where Billy Heroman’s grandfather and father ran a “feed and seed” store.
Billy grew up immersed in the family trade, learning the ropes by observing and helping out. As a young boy, he even rode in a horse and buggy with his father to New Orleans to pick up chrysanthemums for All Saints Day sales.
1955: THE FOUNDING OF BILLY HEROMAN'S FLOWERLAND
In 1955, Billy and his wife, Janet Heroman, officially branched out on their own. They opened the first Billy Heroman’s Flowerland on Perkins Road in Baton Rouge.
Billy founded the business on a simple but powerful mission: to provide friends and customers with beautiful products and unparalleled customer service. He famously said, “We take care of you from the day you come into the world until the day you leave it, and every day in between.” By offering personal attention to every order and giving back to the community, the Perkins Road location quickly became a beloved neighborhood mainstay.
EXPANSION & THE BIRTH OF THE PLANTSCAPING DIVISION
Over the decades, the company experienced rapid growth. As commercial spaces, corporate offices, hospitals, and hotels began seeking higher-quality interior design and healthier indoor environments, the company established Billy Heroman's Plantscaping.
This specialized division focuses entirely on designing, installing, and maintaining beautiful living landscapes—both inside and outside—for commercial and residential properties. Offering everything from tropical indoor plants and living walls to outdoor container gardening and seasonal holiday decor, the plantscaping division propelled the company’s growth far beyond standard floral delivery.

Today, Billy Heroman’s operates as a proud fourth- and fifth-generation family-owned business. The leadership team—including Buzzy and Susie Heroman, their sons Ben and Robert, and their nephew Todd McBride—continues to oversee daily operations and honor the founder’s legacy.While the original Garden District shop on Perkins Road still thrives, the company has grown into a statewide powerhouse with:
- Three retail locations in Baton Rouge, including a 10,000-square-foot greenhouse and design center on Harrell’s Ferry Road.
- The largest florist operation in Louisiana.
- A massive plantscaping footprint that services clients not only in Baton Rouge but across Lafayette, Covington, Slidell, Houma, Hammond, Metairie, New Orleans, and Shreveport.
From its humble beginnings as a feed and seed store to its current status as Louisiana’s premier plantscaping and floral firm, Billy Heroman’s continues to bring beauty to life and natural art to workspaces across the Gulf South.
